Shalom Gimel Families,
I hope everyone had a great February vacation! The first week back has been very busy
In Hebrew students completed Mi Kamocha and started working on the Ashrei. For homework they should practice line 1-4. In class our reading review includes whole group reading, buddy reading and Hebrew reading games. During the week we added a movement reading activity – Musical Reading. Different lines from Mi Kamocha were placed around the desks. Students walked around the desk to the song Miriams Timbrels. When the music stopped, students were asked to read the line they landed at either to the group or a buddy. Everyone had blast and enjoyed being able to stand up and move!
On Tuesday students continued to research different Purim traditions online. The Wednesday students met with Bar, our shinshin, who shared with them about Purim in Israel. Wednesday night there was a wonderful Purim celebration and Megillah reading and students did a great job singing the Maccabeats song, Raise your Glass. It was great to see students participating in other acts in TI’s Got Talent, including the act by Natick USY in which Elana’s son also participated.
The highlight of the week was our guest speaker, Gary Alpert, who presented a wonderful program about hearing disabilities. After an introduction, students rotated to three different stations – finger spelling, lip reading and assistive technology. The program concluded with Gary sharing his own story – and entertained us all while doing so! Thank you Gary for a fabulous presentation, and thanks to Gela Fuxman and David Edelson who kindly volunteered their time to lead the finger spelling and lip reading stations.
