Gimel Goings On

Posted on January 8, 2018

Shalom Gimel Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to Hebrew School!
Students have jumped right back into the swing of things.  In Hebrew this week students reviewed the Birkot Hashachar and have learned to recite it through line 13.  They are doing a super job with this!
Sunday stations this week included Hebrew Buddy Reading, Hebrew Reading games and a listening center where students listened to the story The Invisible Boy before writing their compliments to 2 classmates.
During the weekdays we began talking about the holiday of TuBishvat with a focus on the environment and taking care of trees,  since this holiday marks the birthday of the trees.  We read the book Gods World and had a conversation about taking care of trees.  Students are working on an art project where they are illustrating and describing what they think G-d’s World look likes.  Next week students will use Google Slides to make a class slide show of their work.
We enjoyed our visit with Bar last week where he introduced the concept of the Israeli scouts with games and a project.  Students made their own paper cups!  We look forward to hearing more about the Israeli scouts (tzofim) this week.
In Torah class on Sunday students were introduced to the value of leadership.  After completing a journal entry about their ideas of leadership, we played a game of Indian Chief.  After 3 rounds students talked about why they wanted to be the leader.  The Exodus story that we will focus on to explore this value further is the story of Moses at the Burning Bush.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Leslie Grossman who will be assisting in the room on Sundays.
Upcoming and Reminders
We will work on the technology portion of the Gods World project on Tuesday and Wednesday.
We will complete the Birkot Hashachar over the next 2 weeks.
Please make sure your son/daughter brings their binder and a snack to Hebrew School each Sunday and week day.
Have a great week!
