Temple Israel
OF NATICK

Dear Kitah Gimel/Grade 3:

I am very excited to welcome you to Kitah Gimel/Grade 3 and look forward to working with you as you continue your Jewish journey at Temple Israel of Natick.  We are going to have so much fun together!

Five things you can look forward to this year:

  1. Games to help you remember your Hebrew letters, vowels and decoding skills.

  1. Singing, dancing & arts and crafts. (I teach Arts and Crafts at Grossman Camp in the summer.)

  1. Through role plays, arts and crafts and technology, we’ll explore the traditions and customs of different Jewish holidays and their background stories.  For some holidays we’ll compare how Jews in different parts of the world celebrate.

  1. Spending time with your Jewish friends and strengthening your connection to each other!
  2. Torah stories about community.  We’re going to be focusing on the Book of Exodus and the stories in that section of the Torah which are about the Israelites becoming a community.

Each Sunday morning we will have a morning meeting during which students will take a turn to share something about themselves.  This is also the time when we’ll review the daily schedule and learn a few words in Hebrew.

At the end of the year you will be able to sing some new prayers and have a handful of Hebrew words at the tip of your tongue.  You will also know more about the customs and history of our holidays.  Your families will be so proud of all you accomplish and you will be so proud of yourselves!

Have a wonderful rest of the summer and good luck with the start of the new school year.  We look forward to welcoming you to class on Tuesday or Wednesday, September 13 or 14 and our first Sunday on September 18.

L’shalom

P.S.  While this letter is signed from me, I am excited to share with you that Marc Guttman will be helping in our classroom this year.  Marc has been an aide at Temple Israel for several years and he is just as excited as I am to learn from you.
