Grade 6/Vav Class Tuesday Happenings

Posted on November 2, 2015

It is crazy that it is already November and we have only spent a few classes together!  Now that our learning is underway, I wanted to catch up with you and let you know what we are up to in class.

It is so excited that your students have the opportunity to learn with the talented educators at Prozdor.  The Israel programming that they are providing is going to be wonderful and our first session was so interesting.  Students went around the room and gave their thoughts about different images of Israel, engaged a text study and enjoyed Tefila with our Prozdor educators Dan and Noah.  We will see them again this Tuesday.

In the classroom, we started by brainstorming as a group what “holiday” means.  Students were encouraged to write down whatever they felt and share.  We will do this activity again to see if and how our ideas have changed. A picture of our class brainstorm is below.

Last week our focus was on Halloween. Specifically, we debated if we felt that Halloween was a Jewish holiday and/or if it had any Jewish connections or values.  The conversation was spectacular and it was so interesting to see how the students’ ideas evolved based on what their peers brought to the conversation.  Overall, we decided that Halloween is really a secular holiday but there are some ideas that relate to Judaism,

Each class period ends with time with Cantor Ken to help prepare for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Please reach out to Cantor Ken if you have any questions or concerns.

It was great to see so many of you at Synaplex on Sunday.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about our Holiday exploration in the Vav class.
